Antimicrobial stewardship is a cornerstone of human medicine to optimize the quality of care and mitigate the looming threat of antimicrobial resistance. With the frequency of antibiotic prescription in the veterinary setting, transmission of pathogens between humans and animals, and enhanced focus on One Health, there are opportunities to implement some best practices from human medicine into veterinary medicine. This talk will outline antimicrobial stewardship principles and practices that can be or have successfully been translated into veterinary medicine.
